St. John’s School Trust SJS St. John's School Society, the school’s legal entity, is incorporated under the Society Act of British Columbia and is a registered charity under the Income Tax Act.
The St. John's Trust is an open-end investment trust offering units on a continual basis. The family of each student enrolled in St. John's School is required to subscribe to the trust units. The proceeds of subscriptions are loaned to the school society as a term loan, secured by a second mortgage on land and building.
Families are required to invest in the school through a private trust fund administered through Valiant Trust. Parents purchase 50 units (unit value will remain at $640/unit) in the trust at a cost of $32,000.00. The trust will pay the trust holders semi-annual interest at 1.07 %. Many parents borrow the funds through a line of credit. By doing so, the borrower will only have to make monthly interest payments.
When your child leaves the school, you are entitled to have your trust units redeemed. However, a child enrolled in one of Grades K through 10 inclusive may not redeem their units for 36 months after their issuance. This restriction has been instituted to assist St. John’s School to secure favourable financing for the construction of its new facilities. |
