This year’s Grade 3 trip to Camp Cheakamus Field School was a great success: students enjoyed perfect weather, amazing learning opportunities, extraordinary camp guides and delicious meals!
Cheakamus is located in Brackendale, just beyond Squamish, on a bend of the fast-flowing Chekamus River. Highlights included caving with headlamps and helmets; a study of salmon lifecycle (including releasing salmon fry into the river); feeding goats and chickens on the farm; and building survival shelters in the forest from available materials. The kids dazzled the camp staff with heartfelt renditions of "We are the Champions"! We were also lucky enough to learn the Squamish Nation legend of Woon-ti, the guardian spirit of the river. A great time was had by all.
