JKs Plant Tulips in Remembrance

The JK class made use of their green thumbs yesterday, planting tulip bulbs in the courtyard with Ms. Little. The tulips have a very special meaning — the bulbs were provided by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as part of an initiative to cover Canada with 1.1 million tulips to commemorate the 1.1 million Canadians who took part in the Second World War effort.

During the Second World War, the Dutch Royal Family found a safe haven in Canada; they presented Canada with a gift of 100,000 tulips at the end of the Second World War. Now, on the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the Netherlands repeated this gift by sending tulip bulbs to 1,100 schools across Canada.

We look forward to watching the tulips bloom!
