Senior Boys Place 6th in the Province

Our Senior Boys Basketball team returned from Langley on Saturday, March 7 after four days of competition with the best basketball teams in the province.
Our school has represented at the Senior Boys Provincials twice, finishing 11th in 2011 and 12th in 2012. This year, our boys made history by winning their first game which guaranteed them a finish in the province’s Top 8.

SJS started the tournament with a 71 – 64 victory over McBride Secondary. The next day, the team dropped a quarterfinal game to eventual Tournament Champions Unity Christian 89 – 56.
The Eagles then faced Glenlyon Norfolk. Despite going down 29 – 9, St. John’s battled back and eked out a three point victory 83 – 80.
SJS played their last game against Barriere Secondary. It seemed the team was spent. Without starting Point Guard, Allen P., Grade 12, who had injured his ankle the day before, the team just did not have their normal jump. The Eagles dropped their last game 86 – 56.
There were some outstanding performances over the four days of competition. Steven L. was our high scorer averaging 19 points per game. Martin C. scored 27 points in the comeback win over Glenlyon.
Grade 11 students, Eason T. and Armaan S. were terrific in all four games.
Congratulations to all the boys for getting to the “show”. They are already anxious and eager to start training to get back next year!
A huge thank you to our Grade 12s Allen P., Oliver T., Steven L., Navi K. and Martin C. Their high school basketball careers are now over. We very much appreciate your hard work and commitment to SJS Athletics!
