As a not-for-profit society, St. John’s has a Board of Governors made up of business and community leaders who are current or past parents. The Board sets the strategic direction of the school and in partnership with our Head of School, ensures the school is successfully achieving our vision and has the resources to reach our goals.

  • Robert Marsh, Chair

    Robert (Rob) Marsh and his wife Agnes (Aggie) Lee have two daughters at St. John’s: Katie in the DP and Eli in the MYP. Rob is a partner in National and Global Accounting Consulting Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and is consulted on complex accounting matters by internal and external clients from across Canada and other parts of the world. Rob is a Chartered Professional Accountant, and holds a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo (1997), a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley (1995), and a B.A. (Honours) in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of BC (1986). Aggie is currently a hematologist at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Professor of Medicine but practiced in Hamilton, Ontario when Rob was based in the Toronto office of PricewaterhouseCoopers. They returned home to Vancouver in 2008.
     
    Rob was elected as a Governor in 2013. He is a past co-chair of the Risk Management Committee, and past Vice Chair. He is currently Board Chair, Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, member of the Finance Committee and serves on the Executive Committee.
  • Darrell Chambers, Secretary

    Darrell Chambers and his wife Jenny Jung are the parents of Ellie in the MYP. He has been involved in other non-profit Boards for many years. Darrell, born and raised on the prairies, holds a master’s degree in both business and education and has lived in Vancouver for over 20 years. He has worked across Canada in real estate and land development, small business development, manufacturing and banking and as a university instructor. Prior to coming to Vancouver, Darrell lived for 10 years in Zurich where he worked as a business consultant for ReviSwiss and for a Private Swiss Bank.

    Darrell was elected as a Governor in 2012. He is Board Secretary and a member of the Executive Committee. He also serves on the Committee on Governors and is past Chair of the Building and Facilities Committee.
  • Lee-Lynn Gan, Treasurer

    Lee-Lynn Gan has two children at SJS, Evan in the MYP and Claire in the PYP. Lee-Lynn is a Chartered Accountant and senior manager at KPMG, specializing in tax planning for Canadian corporations and their shareholders. KPMG’s National Tax practice also relies on her technical expertise on a wide variety of tax issues.

    Lee-Lynn was elected as a Governor in 2014 and re-elected in 2017. She is currently Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. She also serves on the Strategic Planning Committee and the Executive Committee.
  • Jeff Guise

    Jeffrey (Jeff) Guise and his wife, Kim, have two children at St. John’s: Kiefer in the MYP and Georgia in the PYP. Jeff is the Managing Director of Connor Clark & Lunn Private Capital, part of Canada’s largest private-owned money management firm. Jeff has over 20 years of experience in the money management industry. He is involved in oversight of the firm’s investment functions, product development and large scale project management. Jeff has served on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver International Wine Festival and the Vancouver Playhouse. His family participates in the Kerrisdale Little League, Whistler Club programme and charity events such as the BC Children’s Hospital ChildRun and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada’s Light the Night Walk.

    Jeff was elected as a Governor in 2015 and is Chair of the Advancement Committee and the Endowment Investment Committee.
  • Pamela Jefcoat

    Pamela (Pam) Jefcoat and her partner, Glenn Matthiesen, have two children at St. John's: Zoe in the MYP and Niklas in the PYP. Pam has a law degree and holds a Master in Public Administration from University of Victoria and has been practicing law for the past 16 years. Pam was previously a partner at the law firm of Bull, Housser & Tupper LLP and at another boutique municipal law firm in Vancouver. Pam is currently the managing partner of Civic Legal LLP. Prior to moving to Vancouver to practice law, Pam lived in Victoria where she interned at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and worked at the Ministry of Attorney General and Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. Pam also spent time overseas working at the law firm of Shook Lin & Bok in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

    Pam was elected as a Governor in 2015. She currently serves as Vice Chair and is Chair of the Risk Management Committee. She is a member of the Executive Committee and a member of the Committee on Governors.
  • Qing Ji

    Qing Ji and her husband Louis Cote are parents of Lea in the PYP. Qing is a Chartered Financial Analyst and portfolio manager at Global Alpha Capital Management, a boutique firm focused exclusively on global small cap equities. Qing holds a Master of Business Administration from McGill University, and has over twenty years of experience in the investment management industry. Qing is fluent in English, French and Mandarin. She was born and raised in China and worked in Switzerland and Singapore before immigrating to Canada.

    Qing is a member of the Advancement Committee and the Endowment Investment Committee.
  • Gloria Leong-Sit

    Gloria Leong-Sit and her husband, Colin Edwards, are the parents of Jack in the MYP and Sloane in the PYP. Gloria has a Bachelor of Commerce and Asian Studies from the University of Alberta. She started her career in Sales and Marketing with Fairmont Hotels, working across Canada in Alberta and Ontario. She has also worked as a Client Development Manager for the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, and as a Director, Business Development, for the Mercer Creative Group in Vancouver.

    Gloria was elected as a Governor in 2016. She is a member of the Advancement Committee and is also serving in her fourth year as a Class Parent.
  • Judith Mewhort

    Judith Mewhort is a past SJS parent and was elected to the Board in 2017. She is the managing partner of Montridge Advisory Group Ltd., a consulting firm, since 1997 and is responsible for the financial and strategic operations. Judith has the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations and has a background in taxation and risk management. Previous non-profit experience includes serving as the treasurer of Wesbrook Preschool from August 2005 to August 2007, and serving on the fundraising committee for the Vancouver FC and Fusion FC soccer club.

    Judith was elected as a Governor in 2017 and is a member of the Finance Committee.
  • Michael Murphy

    Michael Murphy and his wife Gail are the parents of three boys: Jason and Matthew, both class of ’18, and Kieran who attends SJS and is in the MYPMichael joined the faculty of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at UBC in 1999 and is currently a Professor. Within the department he is the Director of Graduate Programs with an enrollment of approximately 100 graduate students, and a member of the executive committee. Michael received his PhD from UBC in 1993, worked as a senior fellow at the University of Washington in Seattle and as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Tokyo before returning to Vancouver. 

    Michael was elected as a Governor in 2017. He is a member of the Committee on Governors.
  • Natasha Prodan-Bhalla

    Natasha Prodan-Bhalla and her husband Sonny Bhalla are the parents of Maya and Leila, both in the MYP. Natasha is an active member of the school community, volunteering for numerous events over the last five years. Natasha is currently working as the Nurse Practitioner and Primary Health Care Lead in the Nursing Policy Secretariat in the Ministry of Health and as a Nurse Practitioner at BC Women's Hospital. She is the founding President of the BC Nurse Practitioner Association and was the lead for their work on primary care transformation in BC. She is also a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada. She holds a Master of Nursing / Adult Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Toronto with a minor in the Ethnic and Pluralism Collaborative Program and completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario. Natasha recently completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Colorado focusing on influencing health care policy and health systems change. Her skills for the board include expertise in leadership, change management, policy development and project management.

    Natasha was elected as a Governor in 2017. She also served on the Committee on Governors.
  • John Tam

    John Tam and his wife, Macy Liu, have one son, William, in the MYP. He is a business computing executive specializing in technology transformation for the retail wealth management market. He is the Vice President, Development of Broadridge Financial Solutions Inc. John obtained his CIM (Canadian Investment Management) designation in 1997 and his CPA, CMA designation in 2014. He is also a Franklin Covey certified facilitator of “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. John is a graduate of UBC and BCIT.

    John was elected as a Governor in 2016 and is a member of the Risk Management Committee.

Advisory Council

The St. John’s School Advisory Council consists of key members of the community who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing the mission and vision of the school. The members provide institutional memory and council to the Governors as well as act as ambassadors for the school.

The following individuals are members of the Advisory Council and have been instrumental in the progress and successes of St. John’s School.

  • Bill Botham

    Mr. Botham first became involved in St. John’s in 1992, and soon became the Chair of the Board. He mobilized a group of volunteers to stabilize the school’s finances, recruited quality staff and raised the funds necessary to purchase and refurbish our current school. Now, the Botham’s grandchildren attend St. John’s.
  • Rob King

    Mr. King served on the Board of Governors from 2005 to 2009. St. John's acquisition of land adjacent to the school for the expansion is a result of his expertise. Mr. King also helped structure our current school Trust arrangement. Currently, Mr. King is with Westbridge Capital.
  • Jeff Mullins

    Mr. Mullins served on the Board of Governors from 2002 to 2009. He facilitated property acquisitions and the early stages of our building expansion approval and design. Mr. Mullins also spearheaded the school's Advancement initiatives with the Head of School. Now, the Mullins’ grandchild attends St. John’s.
