Spring Fest Concert

On Wednesday, we enjoyed our annual Spring Fest concert. Spring Fest is a showcase to celebrate students and their hard work in the MYP music programme. The event was student-run, with student conductors Challen W., Bruce B., Grace Z. and Carl G. directing a number of musical pieces.

The evening kicked off with a performance by the Honours Band before Oliver T. treated the audience to Pathetique by Beethoven, which he recently performed at the world-famous Carnegie Hall.

Music 7-9 performed Ancient Voices as part of their recent MYP unit of inquiry. The Japan Honours Band then gave us a sneak peek of the songs they have been rehearsing in preparation for their upcoming trip to Tokyo, including Lisa N.'s mesmerizing performance of Clarinet on the Town. The performance was filmed as an audition for the band to perform at Disneyland Tokyo.

Rock band Sunrise Tofu got the crowd pumped and the Jazz Band kept the energy high with performances of ChickenSummer Time and songs from Bond movies. Carl G.'s saxophone solo went down a storm.

The Intermediate Choir charmed the crowd with beautiful performances of pop hits from different decades.

To round off the night, SJS Grade 12 'lifers' were thanked by Mr. Deans for their ongoing contribution to school music. This was to be their last SJS concert and it was a nostalgic, celebratory moment. Challen W. took the opportunity to share a personal story of arriving at the school 12 years ago, at the same time as Mr. Deans. Challen shared that Mr. Deans had instilled in him a passion for music and all of the students agreed that his sense of humour and good nature had kept them calm before many a performance throughout their lives at St. John's.

We hope you enjoyed this wonderful evening!
